A 142-character title, and where Google cuts it
November 1, 2026
One post on Cloudflare's blog has a title tag of 142 characters. A phone shows about 60 of them. Google's documentation sets no limit on the length of a title element and says the title link "is truncated in Google Search results as needed, typically to fit the device width" (Google Search Central). The cut lands where the screen runs out, with no regard for where the sentence does.
Of the 215 SaaS posts we read on 12 September 2026, 102 run past 60 characters. Every one of Cloudflare's eight does, and Vercel's "Introducing Flat Rate CDN" is 34. The title tag entry lists what Google builds a title link from. BeeRanked's editor shows the search result preview as you type, so the cut is visible before the page is published (Improve your SEO).
